Who We Support
TeacherTech
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
TeacherTech provides free training and digital literacy classes as well as acting as computer supplier of last resort for kids only in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. While other programs are working with already computer literate kids, TeacherTech is starting at the beginning with disadavantaged Khmer youths.
This project cofounded by David Anthony and his partner Adjani Navalta and shares our mission in bridging the gap for access to computing and skills development at home vs at schools. They have started with 100% grassroots donations and support within Cambodia and we hope to be a great partner in supporting their work with additional resources outside of that very soon
CMU/CAMT
Chiang Mai, Thailand
This is a partnership program supporting Chiang Mai University in Thailand (#3 nationally ranked) 's CAMT faculty (the College of Arts, Media and Technology)that will equip their poorest yet still academically strong students with at least a Chromebook to use for their studies and costs of uniforms (which is often a major stress point with poor Thai families). We may also create a separate coding workshop teaser that will enable younger kids, pre university to have a "taste" of STEM/university life with the best performing / highest potential attendees being able to win appropriately performing machines to be able to continue their exploration and learning whether they attend university or not. Ideally this can also help give an idea of whether STEM or CAMT subjects are right for them or not early on.
Thailand has also recently achieved the #2 spot for commercially produced games in the ASEAN region on Steam!
Code for Girls
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Code for Girls aims to combat all negative social norms and traditional ideas for gender equality in the field of STEM."Code For Girls" is a club for girls who want to test their programming skills and step out of their comfort zone.
The Code For Girls project was developed by a group of young people supported by UNICEF Cambodia under the Generation Future Program.
Code for Girls is founded by Rith Souvalandin, once known as "Cambodia's Female Coder" (there can be only one right?) who we saw as frankly pushing harder beyond digital literacy and interest building and into "real programming" vs other programs. This alone makes her one to watch and support
She is a freshman data science and AI university major and also a weekend teacher at international university prep coding school Algorithmics
Sisters of Code
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Sisters of Code is the first female coding club in Cambodia that was launched by IT Academy STEP Cambodia in early 2019 with an aim to provide after school coding training for female students from 10 to 20 y.o. During the 18 weeks program, female students meet every week with their trainers, female too, to learn the secrets of coding, work on projects and present their works in the teams.
46% of girls told that they are not supported to study technology or even not allowed in many cases.
27% mentioned, that there are no other places for girls to study digital skills.
Upcoming Support
A taster of some of the projects we're eager to support but still figuring out the best way to do so
Rural Impact Sourcing
Siargao, Phillipines
The Department of Information and Communications Technology is spearheading a Rural Impact Sourcing Technical Training (RISTT) The program aims to promote and develop the online freelancing industry and home-based outsourcing through technical training in rural communities that lack local employment opportunity
This will increase the capabilities of Filipinos who are currently unemployed or financially unstable. It also benefits disadvantaged individuals, such as single parent and person with disabilities (PWDs). It will help them gain employment through the online freelancing industry, without leaving the comfort of their home.
